The Tales of a Perfectionist: Living in the Pocket

Life is not about living the perfect life. Life is not about making all the right decision and the perfect time in the perfect way.

This concept can be very impossible to come to terms with if you are a perfectionist and you don't believe in Jesus and don't live intentionally with Holy Spirit every day.

The reality for me as a believer is that I am created uniquely with my own select collection of traits from the image of God. I don't reflect all of Him but part of Him. And He has destined me to live out in alignment certain graces from His nature, not all of them but some of them.

So when I look at the grand scheme of my life from the day to day and in the long term effect I have to take into consideration that God did not create me into certain graced lifestyles. That doesn't mean I don't have access to the graces that are outside my natural giftings, but it means some things will never come as naturally as others.

To a perfectionist this is like hearing the match bell for the battle of the century. It is a challenge that we intend to accept and conquer without hesitation...but never without struggle.

Unfortunately what most perfectionist must humble come to realize is that all our efforts have not produced the result of perfection we had originally set out for. And if we believe it has, it is probably because we have no idea what perfection actually looks like.

God created each and everyone of us with a perfect landscape original blue print of a life span that He knew we would never live out. But He things about that with a smile because He knew from the very beginning we were going to live it out in our own imperfect way that was going to be just a beautiful as His way as long as it is lived with Him along side.

The concept of God's perfect plan is not a standard that He holds over us to make us see and feel bad for every "mistake" we make that veers us outside of His original story line. Because if it looked exactly how He imagined it, it would not actually be us living it, it would be Him. And He can't have that. That is outside His heart for humanity, and God will compromise on a lot of things but never His heart for His people. He doesn't want more robotic angels to do His bidding without question. He wants love lead bondservants that are committed to His will but most initially His heart that encompasses His will. You can't get to His will until you enter His heart. That is on purpose. You will never understand His will until you fully understand His heart. That is why Moses the most humble men in existence actually encounter the secret to moving the hand of God. Not that He necessarily knew what God wanted better than God did. The reality of the situation is that man looks at the picture through temporal, miniscule perspective and when God says I will wipe out a people, He knows all the ways He can redeem the effects of that decision that we can't even fathom. But because we are here and He wants to walk this out in partnership with us not dragging us along by our feet. He therefore, invites and welcomes our ideas and input with a full heart and open arms. So if we think a different course of action would be better and we know His heart well enough to present an idea that is in alignment with that, then we have full passed the prerequisite for an approved course correction. Not that the initially presented idea was faulty but that it is instantly a better course of action when it was made by the input of both God and man.

God is teaching us how to make these decisions now in this world, in this earthly kingdom that God knows will pass away (we can know that too), because He sees this just as the practice round, the training ground for eternity. No worries needed. He would give critical decisions in the hands of an imperfect hot mess of a people. He's not mad at us but He won't give us anything too critical and influential that is beyond our capacity to make a sufficiently wise decision to compensate for whatever consequences arise. He's God, He's not foolish.
